Ian: How many stops are you guys playing on the TOUR?
Ryan: We're doing the entire Tour this year.
Ian: Really!
Ryan: Yeah .. This will be the first year that we've done the entire tour ..
It’s actually our 4th year doing the WARPED TOUR
Like last year, we did the entire European Warped Tour, which is like only 2 weeks . or something like that . but ..Before that we were like a couple weeks here .. a couple weeks there ...
Ian: DID you play Texas Yet?
Ryan: No we haven't ... Texas like rolls around about the last week of the tour
.
Ian: Cool .. What’s the line up like in Texas? I heard Save the Day's playing..
Ryan: I haven't checked the line up yet.. Usually the first I see of it is when I look at the sheet that day and I see that we've lost some bands and gained some more bands .. like today .. I was making all this food - and right in the middle of it ... I saw that Jones Escape Plans was playin' so I stopped what I was doin' and ran to the Vulcan Stage that day and I checked them out - it was freaking' AWESOME it was a great show!!
Ian: How many stages are set up right now?
Ryan: I believe there's 5 ... there's stage 1 and 2 - which are supposed the "main stages" ..And then you've got the side stages .. Like the second stage, which they call it, which is just set up next to the Vulcan Stage - so there's 4 stages.. And you've also got the Ernie Ball stage which I believe is battle of the bands in each city - and the winners are picked to play on the Ernie Ball stage on the WARPED TOUR.
Ian: So you guys didn’t play yet right ..?
Ryan: No - it goes Millencolin, All Stars, Good Riddance and then ..
Ian: GreenDay?
Ryan: GreenDay's on at 7 I think ..
Ian: Oh cool.. How long has Suicide machine been together for?
Ryan: Since 1991
Ian: Oh .. So do you have any side projects going or anything?
Ryan: Yeah - I play with some kids that I played with before I was in the Suicide Machines still .. You mess around - do some recordings and stuff .who knows - maybe once the Suicide Machine is over..Whenever that is .. Maybe I’ll do some stuff with them.. Maybe not.. It’s just for fun right now.. Royce, on Bass, records stuff in his basement.. when he's not snowboarding ... Does a lot of solo type stuff
... some of it is Suicide Machine songs that he does .. Some of it stuff that he likes to do for himself .. you know.. other than that - it's pretty much it..
Ian: Jay used to be in a band called the Kleon's dial? ..
Ryan: Jay's been in so many different bands at the same time ..He’s been in Roosevelt’s, Not Real Brave; he's been on a lot of different bands ..
Jay's the singer... skateboards too.
Ian: I saw you guys in the WARPED TOUR last year... ??
Ryan: Last year?
Ian: No '97
Ryan: Yeah - that was right before I was in the band
Ian: Yeah - that was my senior year in high school..
Ryan: OK..
Ian: Where do you guys see your music going?
Ryan: I don't know and that's a good thing I guess because just before the last record we released - we had no idea - we ended up doing something totally different.
But you know .. a lot of our fans who've been listening to us for a long time - they weren’t real sure how to react to it.. I guess that's better than releasing the exact same record over and over again - with the exact same kinda songs and everything ..
I mean - some bands can do that - and it's sounds great .. but I’d rather expand my horizons a little bit and see what I’m capable of .. even if I try it and it sucks ..
Ian: What do you guys think about about other bands who are just starting out and have a very heavy Suicide Machine influence ... what do you say to them?
Ryan: I think it's cool - I mean .. I think that everybody that I know started out started by imitating something you know and then you add your own flavor to it - and that's what ya gotta do - you gotta take what you like and then add you own take on it to make it your own.. you know..
